Cel-shaded FPS XIII Remake release delayed to 2020

Looks like we'll be waiting a little while longer to get our hands on this cel-shaded comic book shooter.

Brace yourself for some bad news, XIII fans – kind of, anyway.

The upcoming XIII remake was previously targeting a November 2019 release with both physical and digital editions on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac. Now, it looks like it's going to be coming out in 2020 instead.

“We are thrilled with PlayMagic’s work so far. This additional development time is needed to reach the level of polish we’re aiming for. The announcement was greeted by an overwhelming response from the community and we’ll make sure to deliver the best possible game to our fans” said François Coulon, head of production at Microids. So, boo on that – but the extra polish should hopefully mean a better product in the long run.

This remastered version of the classic game isn't going to be a mobile game (thankfully!) and will explore the first five volumes of the comic series of the same name. Players will take on the role of Thirteen, an amnesiac soldier who wakes up on Brighton Beach one day with two things: a key and a tattoo that says "XIII" on his clavicle. With just those two clues, you've got to piece together the mystery of why you've suddenly been charged with killing the president of the United States. Uh, okay then.

There's a projected 34 levels with a solo campaign announced so far, with no multiplayer on tap yet, but don't count it out. It could very well happen, especially with the delay on the table.

Stay tuned to Shacknews for more updates in the XIII realm. We can't ait to get our hands on it, either.
