EVO apologizes for misleading Tekken Solid Snake joke

While there was indeed some "good ass Tekken" played, it doesn't mean Snake is coming to the game, sadly.

If you thought we were getting Solid Snake in Tekken following a short skit ahead of the Tekken 7 Grand Finals at this weekend's EVO event, you'd be forgiven for your mistake.

Right before the EVO 2019 Grand Finals kicked off, a quick clip showing Snake chatting during a codec conversation seemed to indicate that there could be another character potentially coming to Tekken in the future: none other than the Metal Gear Solid hero himself.

"That was some good-ass Tekken," says Snake over the codec, to Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada. Attendees got a good laugh at this, but it was only shown to people in attendance. It wasn't actually shown on the official livestream. That, of course, didn't stop people from thinking Snake would actually be coming to the game.

This misunderstanding prompted EVO to tweet the following:

"Just to clear things up, the Snake cameo video that we showed during Tekken finals was our idea of a little joke. It was not intended to imply a character reveal, and was done on our own, without consulting Bandai Namco. Sorry for any confusion!"

So, the frustrating part is that we won't be seeing Snake added to the Tekken roster anytime soon (at least he's in Smash!) but we did get a pretty funny joke out of it all, at least. And we can always dream about seeing Snake going up against the likes of Jin, Heihachi, Hwoarang, and the rest of the gang.
