Showtime's Halo series casts Cortana actress

Natascha McElhone will be playing the iconic AI in the upcoming Showtime series.

The Halo series at Showtime is chugging along nicely, and it looks like it's found the perfect actress to portray the iconic role of Cortana.

Californication's Natascha McElhone will be taking on Cortana, as well as Dr. Catherine Halsey, the creator of the SPARTAN project and the person on which Cortana was based in the first place. In addition to McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine was announced to play a new "Privateer" character Soren-066 as well as Shabana Azmi, who will take on Admiral Margaret Parangosky, the head of the Office of Naval Intelligence.

The show had already selected its most important star: Pablo Schreiber, who you might recognize as Pornstache from Orange is the New Black. He will play Master Chief, and we can't wait to see how this will all work out. The show will obviously be taking some liberties with the Halo storyline and universe, so it's hard to say what kind of storyline we'll be facing at this point.

Showtime is producing the series with 343 Industries and Amblin Entertainment, with production set to begin later this year in Budapest, Hungary. We don't know much more than that just yet, but it should be an exciting time for Halo fans, especially as this will be the first official project the game has seen on a major cable television network.

What do you think it will be like? Let us know in the comments below.
