Free August Xbox Games with Gold include Gears of War 4, Forza 6

Pick up four games this month with August's selection of Games with Gold titles.

Ready for a new set of Games with Gold titles for your Xbox One and Xbox 360 collection? The latest series of games for August have just been announced.

This coming month, Xbox Live Gold members will be rewarded with four free new games: two on Xbox One and two on Xbox 360, for the Games with Gold program. Both Xbox 360 titles can be played on Xbox One thanks to Backward Compatibility. Major Nelson took to his official blog to break the news today. Looks like Gears fans will get a chance to get ahead by playing Gears of War 4 before Gears 5 debuts.

Xbox One users can download Gears of War 4 and Forza Motorsport 6. Gears of War 4 will be available for free during all of August, while Forza will only be available from August 16 through September 15.

For Xbox 360 users, Torchlight will be free beginning on August 1 and running through August 15. On August 16, you can add Castlevania: Lords of Shadow to your growing treasure trove of free titles, and it will be available through August 31.

Our own Asif Khan reviewed Gears of War 4, awarding it a 9 out of 10. Here's what he thought:

"Gears of War 4 is a fantastic addition to a great franchise. It introduces characters and paves a runway for future games. The Coalition Studio updated the series with a careful attention to detail that is clearly rooted in a deep respect for the history of the series. Gamers who have never played a Gears of War game will feel just as welcome as players who have logged thousands of hours killing grubs. This is one of the best games to be released this year, without a doubt. While the campaign may have felt a bit short with its abrupt ending, it left me itching for a sequel."

Even if you don't pick up the other titles, this month's game list is worth it for the new Gears hotness alone. Make sure you grab last month's titles too, before they slip out of your grasp.
