Dr Disrespect banned from Twitch after streaming from bathroom

Looks like the Doc's first IRL stream went just a little too far for Twitch's liking, earning the major streamer a ban for filming in the public bathroom at E3 2019.

If you’ve heard of Twitch, then chances are you’ve probably heard of Dr. Disrespect in some manner. Often lauded as one of the best players in the online gaming community, Dr. Disrespect has been making the rounds at E3 2019 today, filming his experience along the way. The ban looks to have come as a result of the streamer filming his trip into a public restroom at E3.

According to California’s Penal Code, Section 647 j. 1, “A person who looks through a hole or opening, into, or otherwise views, by means of any instrumentality, including, but not limited to, a periscope, telescope, binoculars, camera, motion picture camera, camcorder, or mobile phone, the interior of a bedroom, bathroom, changing room, fitting room, dressing room, or tanning booth, or the interior of any other area in which the occupant has a reasonable expectation of privacy, with the intent to invade the privacy of a person or persons inside. This subdivision does not apply to those areas of a private business used to count currency or other negotiable instruments.”

Based on this, it makes sense that the Doc’s Twitch channel saw a suspension following his filming the trip to the bathroom, as Twitch’s Community Guidelines state that “sharing content that violates another’s reasonable expectation of privacy, for example streaming from a private space, without permsission” is against the Twitch ToS.

It’s unclear at this time if the ban is a temporary suspension or a full-fledged ban, so we’ll just have to wait and see what official news comes from the Doc or Twitch itself. For now, though, you can head back over to our E3 2019 hub, where you’ll be able to see all the latest news and happenings of the year’s biggest gaming convention right in one place.
