The God of War reboot has been winning fans over left and right since its debut, even taking home several honors by way of the Game Developers Choice Awards. Its epic journey began five years ago with Santa Monica Studio and a franchise that they felt was in need of a fresh coat of paint, and an upcoming documentary is looking to explore everything that lead up to this point.

The God of War documentary, Raising Kratos, follows game director Cory Barlog and the entirety of the Santa Monica Studio development team as they work together to bring the game to fruition the way that they wanted to. It follows the game through its various stages, from deciding the game would abandon Greek mythology and follow the path of Norse mythology instead.

The trailer gives us a peek at the process ahead of the documentary's debut, ending up with the game's official reveal at E3 2016. There's also a new shot in the trailer at the end that we haven't seen before. According to Barlog:

"That was the original pre-rendered teaser trailer for GOW 2018 we were going to hide on the GOW 3 remastered PS4 release. But we ran out of time to get it on the disc so it ended up getting put on the shelf until now."

That may be the truth, but it hasn't stopped fans from speculating whether or not if this could mean another game is on its way. With E3 season around the corner (though Sony won't be a part of the festivities) we could absolutely see something new on its way soon.

It doesn't look like there's any sort of release date for the documentary just yet, but it'll be touching down on the official PlayStation YouTube channel when it's ready. In the meantime, you should absolutely play the game, which we awarded a 9 out of 10.
