NetherRealm Studios has been serving up new details for Mortal Kombat 11 with a steady drip, but today marks the arrival of a pretty significant wave of information. The team has released a new trailer for the time-bending narrative that the MK11 experience is built upon, along with the reveal of three characters joining the fighter's roster.

Mortal Kombat 11 takes place after Raiden's defeat of the elder god Shinnok, which has drawn the attention and ire of Kronika. She believes her desired balance between good and evil has been harmed and it rewinding time to its beginning to restart history and get things back on track. With this narrative, we're going to see characters, dead and alive, from all parts of the Mortal Kombat lore. This also means we get to see wonderful moments like the banter between young and old Johnny Cage.

Along with the new trailer, three playable characters have been added to the roster:

  • Cassie Cage, the commander of an elite Special Forces unit and daughter of the iconic duo, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage, employs her lethal fighting skills to win every battle, with a relentless drive to measure up to her parents’ legacy. Additional gameplay featuring Cassie Cage will be showcased today, March 6, at 3:00 p.m. CST, during this week’s Kombat Kast on the NetherRealm Twitch channel.
  • Jacqui Briggs, a competitive fighter trained in kickboxing and martial arts, follows in the footsteps of her father, Jax Briggs, as a member of the Special Forces. She believes her duty is to protect Earthrealm and her family, no matter the risk.
  • Erron Black is a thrill-seeking outlaw hooked on the adrenaline of chasing his own pursuits. Black is a skilled crack shot selling his services to the highest bidder while dressed in classic western Outworld attire.

Sadly, none of these new characters is Shaggy from Scooby Doo. Cassie Cage will be shown off today during the Kombat Kast on the official NetherRealm Twitch channel.
