Team Sonic Racing is still zooming toward fans next year, but that hasn't stopped Sega from showing off bits and pieces of what players can expect from the new racing title.

Sega splashed some water on a brand new map for Team Sonic Racing as well as the sounds to accompany it with the new map Whale Lagoon. Whale Lagoon finds players racing head to head to the shore for a quick jaunt through a richly-detailed underwater landscape teeming with some mysterious sea creatures.

Accompanying the new Whale Lagoon map is a new track players can check out ahead of jumping into the game, complete with some fun animation to go along with the still shared for our first peek at the map selection's latest addition. It's perfect for a nautical-themed map, with a fun nautical beat you can bob your head to as you sail past the competition.

Sumo Digital's newest entry into the Sonic Racing series is going to be a fast-paced and competitive racer with familiar Sonic characters and stages from some of your favorite games throughout the Sonic Universe. You can race alone and go solo or race with friends in online multiplayer and local co-op modes to create your own one-of-a-kind experience.

Our own Sam Chandler took on the racer back during E3 2018, where he shared his thoughts on the game after a lengthy hands-on experience:

"Overall, Team Sonic Racing is shaping up to be a colorful and exhilarating arcade racer that doesn’t shirk the classic fast-paced nature of Sonic Racing in favour of teamwork – the two work seamlessly together. With some light story promised in the adventure mode, and all manner of local-play compatibility, it will be exciting to see the final product when it releases in Winter 2018."

Team Sonic Racing is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch with retail versions, and a digital only release on PC.
