Samanosuke returns! The hardcore RPG genre has taken a lot of influence from the Onimusha series, but the series hasn't seen the limelight for quite a few years. There's no guarantee that this retread will lead to a revival of the series, but players new and old will now be able to get their hands on a classic soon. Capcom announced today that PS2 classic Onimusha: Warlords is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC this January 2019.

Onimusha: Warlords takes place in feudal Japan after what seems like the death of Lord Nobunaga Oda. Samurai Samanosuke Akechi and ninja Kaede, the lead characters, go on a mission to save a princess after demons invade her castle and the two unravel the mystery of the demons' arrival. As stated in the PlayStation blog post for this announcement, Onimusha was originally conceived as a Resident Evil spin-off and it certainly played as such with the classic RE tank-controls.

This updated version of Onimusha: Warlords still features the fixed camera of the original game, but includes other enhancements. Characters, environments, and cinematics all get a visual upgrade and players can now move around with more freedom. Also, easy mode is unlocked from the start of the game if you want to get through the story without too much difficulty.

Onimusha: Warlords releases January 15, 2019, for $19.99 on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
