Simulations typically try to model the real world.

Nobody wants to see a 99 overall rated Browns team. It would make their brains implode.

I actually asked a dev about even teams in another EA Sports franchise. You make a good point, but it is kinda just the way Madden is these days.

A nice feature in Madden NFL games is Franchise mode. You can build a Cardinals team that doesn't suck. I find these game modes are actually a nice escape for fans of smaller crap teams like the Browns.

I don't know about competitive online folks who only care about w/l ratio, but fans of these sports games I know generally stick to their favorite team and players, doesn't really matter what the ratings are. And a win against a much higher rated team is that much more satisfying.

That's sort of what people are really into with FIFA Ultimate Team thing and I think they carried that stuff over to Madden. You basically build a fantasy team and take that into the online competition vs others.

It's obviously not the same as playing the real world facsimile teams, and they monetize the hell out of it, but they allow you make your own balance with that stuff.

Madden Ultimate Team is this mode. Collect your favorite players on one roster (where favorite is correlated with good because few people are big fans of crappy players).

my little brother playing FIFA years ago:

"i finally was able to put myself in! ball control: 99. stamina: 99. vision: 99. agility: 99. shot power: 99. goalkeeper positioning: 95 - it's not my strong suit, obviously"

there's a reason pretty much all the top fifa players pick from a group of 5 teams

Those ratings only matter in play now mode and when you start up a franchise mode. You can ultimate team salary cap mode to make teams more balanced.

Is there a Madden fantasy football league. Where you draft your players then play the opponents once a week?
