The Monster Boy series is getting its latest iteration in the form of Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, and the game's latest E3 2018 trailer looks just as awesome as we expected it to. The upcoming platformer from Game Atelier and FDG Entertainment is a spiritual successor to Sega and Westone Bit Entertainment's Wonder Boy series, and it wears its influences proudly on its sleeves.

You can see the game in action in its latest trailer below, but for the uninitiated, you'll take on the role of a young boy in the platformer named Jin. He's tasked with stopping his Uncle Nabu from mis-using magic to spread all sorts of chaos across the kingdom. The open-world side-scrolling adventure will find you battling enemies, solving puzzles, and transforming into various animals to make progress. Each animal has its own special abilities, such as a snake who can scramble up slimy surfaces or a pig who can sniff out hidden contraptions you need to watch out for.

The game is being developed as part of a collaboration with Wonder Boy series creator Ryuichi Nishizawa, and it's getting a limited time physical release as well. Check out the first, best look we've had at the game so far above and look forward to this love letter to classic gaming.
