Neo Geo Mini Announced, Comes With 40 Games in A Handy Miniature Arcade Cabinet

Your collection of miniature consoles is about to grow a little larger.

Miniaturizing consoles has worked out extremely well for Nintendo, so it looks like other companies (including Sega) have made the decision to follow suit. Japanese gaming company SNK has officially announced the Neo Geo Mini, quite possibly the coolest-looking miniature of them all, and it'll look great sitting on your shelf alongside your NES and SNES Classic Editions.

The Neo Geo Mini comes preloaded with a whopping 40 games, though there hasn't been any official announcement on which will be onboard just yet. We can tell from some of the promotional imagery, however, that we'll see mainstays like Metal Slug and King of Fighters. How could those be overlooked? They wouldn't be, so it's probably a safe bet that we'll see one or several iterations of both games.

This mini console is designed for handheld play, which looks a little uncomfortable, but you can also hook it up to your TV or monitor via HDMI if that's not your thing. It's got a 3.5-inch LED screen if you want to play while looking at the screen like a real arcade cabinet, though.

There are a couple different versions coming out, in an interesting twist. The US, Europe, Canada, South America, and other regions will get a blue, black, and white-colored machine, while the Asia region will get a red, white, and blue version. Looks like you'll have to import if you want both colors, unfortunately. The red, white, and blue model honestly looks cooler.

There's no word just yet on pricing or a release date, but that should be coming soon. I know I'm definitely going to be on board. How about you?
