Upcoming Pokemon Go Update Features New Quests, Storylines, and the Legendary Mew

The formula for Pokémon Go is getting a major boost, especially narratively. On top of that, Mew is coming along for the ride.

If you’re one of the people that happened to drop off of Pokémon Go, Niantic has been consistently updating it with new content. This time around, the developers are adding another layer of excitement to the overall experience with quests and storylines. It’s also adding one of the most sought-after Pokémon of all time: Mew.

Kotaku reported on the new additions to the mobile augmented-reality-enhanced hit game and feature this message from Niantic about the quests and storylines:

“Trainers will begin receiving research tasks later this week, adding new activities and challenges that can be completed for in-game rewards. Some of these rewards will lead Trainers to access unique storylines that include discovering the mystery behind the Mythical Pokémon Mew.
Pokémon Go’s new research feature will provide Trainers with unique activities called Field Research and Special Research. Field Research tasks can be collected by spinning nearby PokéStops, and they include a wide range of Pokémon-related activities. Special Research tasks are story-driven activities that may be requested by Professor Willow himself, and they will unfold as the Trainer completes more objectives.“

Niantic celebrated the Lunar New Year last month by giving players an opportunity to get more Stardust. Most of the additions since launch have contributed to the thrill of the hunt, but not much beyond that. The excitement of capturing as many Pokémon as you wanted definitely carried Go pretty far, but the devs have finally taken steps to make it a better game. The research aspect will offer new daily activities, some in the form of challenges like capturing specific types of Pokémon or winning a set amount of Raids.
