Is Brigitte the New Overwatch Hero Character?

Here are all the collected clues thus far, plus one that probably shouldn't have been revealed.

The pre-release of new Overwatch characters is essentially an event in itself and Blizzard is ramping up the hype for what seems to be a melee-based champ. Some newly revealed lore spoke of Torbjörn’s unborn daughter and how, after being saved from severe injuries, he would allow Reinhardt to name her and serve as her godfather so that he'd stop bothering as he recovered. With a couple more teasers revealed and a bit of a slip up from the Japanese Overwatch Twitter account, it seems that Brigette Lindholm is our next hero and will be a melee character that uses a hammer or ax and shield.

The initial clue comes from the letter Torbjörn wrote to his wife, a bit of lore that was released on February 24. On February 26, a cryptic tweet from the official Overwatch Twitter shared an image of what looks like a hammer or ax of some kind with the caption "I'll knock some sense into you." It’s design certainly seems to tie into some kind of tie between Torbjörn and Reinhardt. Brigitte Lindholm, as explained in the Overwatch encyclopedia, traveled with Reinhardt after Overwatch was disbanded and helped to maintain his armor.

Today, February 27, the Overwatch team essentially dumped all remaining fuel onto the fire with a tweet that contained the image below:

Looks like a shield right? The lion could also relate to a lion toy she upgrades for Hanna, a young girl she encounters after Reinhardt liberated a village from the Dragons. We first see Brigette in the Honor and Glory short below.

There’s no definitive answer of yet as to who these teases are pointing toward...at least, there wasn’t up until the Japanese Overwatch tweeted a file path pointed to something called “Brigette Teaser #3” as reported by Dot eSports. Was this a massive mistake? Is this clever misdirection by a team known for such? We’ll find out very soon, hopefully.
