New Twitch Rooms Launches Worldwide, Targets Discord's Custom Chat Groups

On web and mobile, content creators have a new customizable way to converse with their communities.

At TwitchCon 2017, Twitch introduced custom chat spaces called Rooms and now they're making them available worldwide on web and mobile. Engaging with your community in new and dynamic ways has been a focus of many recent Twitch updates, including Extensions and a couple ways to gamify viewership on the platform. This particular feature targets one of the current leaders in community management and is another step toward making Twitch a one-stop-shop.

Discord is dominating the conversation when it comes to easy, user-friendly ways for content creators to gather and manage communities, but Twitch has steadily been making progress in that department. Rooms introduces customizable chat groups for creators and brings over Twitch features like badges and subscriber emotes.

These new groups will likely be held to the new community standard set by Twitch recently. Be sure to check out Twitch's Black History Month schedule which will have a new face featured on the front page for the rest of February.
