Part of improving your skills as a hunter in Monster Hunter World is knowing how to unlock all the Palico gadgets for your furry friend. These gadgets are an excellent source of additional power and utility, and might even save your life in a pinch. While you start the game with the Vigorwasp Palico gadget, there are five other gadgets for you to find, all of which offer enticing abilities.

There are a few different Palico gadgets you can unlock as you progress through the game, and most of them are given to you when you help out the Grimalkyne tribes you find in each region. If you want to swap out your Palico’s gadget, you will need to go to your room and speak with your Palico. The last Palico gadget won't be unlocked until after you've unlocked High Rank quests, rewards, weapons, and armor.

Vigorwasp Spray

Vigorwasp Spray Monster Hunter World

The Vigorwasp Spray is received as soon as you start the game and is the first Palico gadget. The Vigorwasp Spray allows the Palico to summon a Vigorwasp to heal you. Once the Vigorwasp Spray reaches Level 5, you’re able to manually request a Vigorwasp. At Level 10, you can call for a Vigorwasp Station, this causes your Palico to leave a Vigorwasp on the ground for you to pick up at your leisure.

How to Get the Flashfly Cage – Ancient Forest

Flashfly Cage Monster Hunter World

The Flashfly Cage is the second Palico gadget you can earn in Monster Hunter World by helping out the Grimalkyne tribe in the Ancient Forest, but first you must have all camp sites unlocked and talk to the Lynian researcher. To help out the Bugtrappers, you need to find their markings and follow them to the very top of the great tree. In Area 17 you’ll come across a Bugtrapper that runs from you. Chase it all the way to its hideout, at which point you’ll be awarded the Flashfly Cage.

The Flashfly Cage ability allows your Palico to summon a Flashfly near large monsters, blinding them for a short time. At Level 5, you can manually summon a Flashfly and your Palico will sometimes place a Shock Trap for you, albeit a weak one. At Level 10, you can place your own Shock Trap, without having to craft one.

How to Get the Shieldspire – Wildspire Waste

Shieldspire Monster Hunter World

To unlock the Shieldspire Palico gadget, you must head to the Wildspire Waste and help the Grimalkyne found in the lower levels after speaking with the Lynian researcher. The Lynian researcher will tell you to find their doodles all over the map, and there are quite a few in the nearby area. Find the required doodles, then head to the Northeast Camp (Area 15) and talk to the leader, then go and capture his three friends using the net in the Slinger. You can sneak up on these guys without the Ghillie Mantle, but this is much easier with it. Once you have all three, return to the Grimalkyne hideout to finish up.

The Shieldspire is a great defensive Palico gadget, which allows your furry friend to summon a shield to taunt large monsters, drawing their aggro. It also helps block damage. It can be exceptionally helpful, especially in some of the more difficult fights, such as when trying to kill the Diablos.

How to Get the Coral Orchestra – Coral Highlands

Coral Orchestra Monster Hunter World

To unlock the Coral Orchestra, you will need to locate the Grimalkyne tribe in Coral Highlands and defeat them in a fight. Track them down and talk to them, then help them hunt two Tzitzi-Ya-Ku as part of their quest, “Troubled Troupers”. This is a solo quest, so come prepared for a fight. Once the quest is completed, you will receive the Coral Orchestra.

The Coral Orchestra Palico gadget is an instrument that is able to boost your attack, defense, and status resistances. At Level 5, you can call for your Palico to use the wind instrument, and at Level 10, you can call your Palico to use a drum instrument.

How to Get the Plunderblade – Rotten Vale

Plunderblade Monster Hunter World

To unlock the Plunderblade for your Palico to use, you will need to progress through the story until you have access to the lower levels of the Rotten Vale. Once you reach this point, head to Area 13 and speak with the Lynian researcher, bringing some Raw Meat with you. Once the conversation is over, stand there and wait for an Odogaron to drop off its meal, then look for a Grimalkyne. The Grimalkyne will run away from you. Simply follow it to its hideout and drop some Raw Meat on the ground to lure it out. The Grimalkyne will give you the Plunderblade.

The Plunderblade is used to get more materials from monsters, which is exceptionally useful if you're trying to farm for materials to upgrade your weapons. The various levels allow you to call for more Plunderblade usage.

How to Get the Meowlotov Cocktail – Elder’s Recess

Meowlotov Cocktail Monster Hunter World

Before you can unlock the final Palico gadget, the Mewlotov Cocktail, you must collect all other Palico equipment, Defeat Zohra Magdaros for the second time, and then speak to the Lynian Researcher in Astera. He will give you quest to find 10 Gajalaka tracks. There are tracks to find in each of the playable areas. Be sure to check out our guide, where to find all Gajalaka doodles in Monster Hunter World, for some help locating these markings.

Continue on the main story line until you unlock the Elder’s Recess location, then speak with the Lynian Researcher in Astera to receive the quest, “Cultural Exchange: Gajalaka Linguistics II”. This quest requires you to find the Gajalaka settlement in the Elder’s Recess. The Gajalaka only appear at night, so you can either wait next to him or go elsewhere and farm. Sometimes you'll load in and it will be night, so you might get lucky.

Once it reaches night, speak with the Lynian Researcher to begin the next step of the quest. You will need to move past the Gajalaka unnoticed, to do this, sneak by them as they dance. Alternatively, use the Ghillie mantle to run past them. When you reach the bottom of the crystal cave, crawl through the little hole to meet the Gajalaka Knight, he will give you the Meowlotov Cocktail.

Selecting the right Palico gadget for the job is important, and while Vigorwasp Spray can be extremely helpful, especially in a pinch, the ability to summon a Shock Trap with the Flashfly Cage is invaluable, as are the buffs from the Coral Orchestra.
