Torchlight 2 Devs Take Their Hob Bit To PS4 Tomorrow

The creators of the critically acclaimed action RPG series are switching things up with an adventure title that speaks entirely through its world.

Torchlight, the action RPG from Runic Games, came onto the scene in 2009, caught on with an audience looking for a spiritual successor to Diablo and Diablo II, and was snatched up by the China-based publisher Perfect World after selling over 500k copies. Torchlight II, released in 2012, was well received while the third iteration of Diablo 3 stumbled out of the gate critically that same year. Now, players will be able to try their hands at Runic's new IP as Hob goes live on PS4 tomorrow, September 26.

Hob is a suspenseful adventure title that accentuates a vibrant world with puzzles, combat, and platforming. This is a bit of departure from the Torchlight series, but is an opportunity to develop a following for a new character and world. Whereas Torchlight II was heavily randomized, Runic Games has meticulously created this world with the hopes to make it appealing strictly through gameplay and exploration, eschewing any text or dialogue.

Sony is celebrating the launch of Hob with a webcomic illustrated by the game's concept artist Kristina Ness and chatting with Hob's Game Director and Lead Level Designer on their blog. Hob will be available on PS4 and Steam tomorrow.
