Today, Twitch has announced that they’re putting their full support behind one of our constitutional rights: Voting. Teaming up with TurboVote, an app that simplifies the process, high-tier content creators on the platform will be encouraging their respective communities to register on September 26, National Voter Registration Day.

TurboVote has made a pledge to reach an 80% turnout at the next election and partnering with Twitch is a pretty solid move. The streaming platform has an incredibly large audience and providing them with the tools for a simplified experience for voting could certainly inspire greater participation. Nevertheless, this is going to be quite a lofty goal considering less than 60% of eligible voters cast a ballot in 2016.

“Twitch empowers the community to not only share their creative and gaming passions, but to make their voices heard, whether it’s for charity drives, promoting inclusivity, or building awareness of civic-minded events,” said Brian Petrocelli, Product Marketing Manager at Twitch. “On National Voter Registration Day, we encourage the community to make their voices heard by registering to vote.”

In their press release for the new partnership, Twitch explains that this “support of National Voter Registration Day is part of an ongoing, non-partisan effort to encourage involvement in the political process”. This isn’t their first go-round and isn’t likely to be the last as they work to empower their audience.
