PlayStation Plus Free Games For August Include Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry

Experience the more personal story of Assassin's Creed's standalone expansion and open world mayhem in Just Cause 3.

Sony has just announced the games that gamers will be getting for free in August via their PlayStation Plus memberships and the main features are certainly no slouches. July’s titles were more linear in nature with Until Dawn and Telltale’s Game of Thrones leading the charge but, for August, you’ll be getting treated to some open world mayhem with Just Cause 3 and Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry.

Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry was a standalone expansion to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag that focused on a more personal and emotional story vs the expansive intrigue of the main series. Taking place 10 months after Black Flag, lead character Adéwalé has left the pirate life to join the Assassin order before encountering brutal French slavers in the West Indies. He recruits a crew and acquires a ship to take them on and ends up facing his own past in the process.

The Just Cause series is known for giving players a chaotic sandbox that has consistently upped the ante with each new entry. The 3rd title lets you pilot a collection of land, sea, and air vehicles, fly a wingsuit, and use a grappling hook and parachute all while causing destruction with a stout arsenal of weapons.

In addition to those two games, you’ll be able to download party game That’s You (PS4), couch co-op casual game Super Motherload (PS3), funky disco sport Snakeball (PS3), intense roguelike Downwell (Vita), and workplace stealth game Level 22 (Vita).

The PlayStation Plus program is a great tool to give players an opportunity to play games that easily could have slipped off their radar when they launched and August’s lead titles are some critically well received heavy hitters. Make sure you grab your free titles when they go live on August 1st and don’t miss out on July’s free PlayStation plus games while you’re at it.
