E3 2017: Pikmin 4 is 'Still Progressing,' Miyamoto Says

With Nintendo showing many of its iconic games and characters at this E3, the little half-plant, half-animal Pikmin were conspicuously absent.

Last year, after a Pikmin 4 no show at E3 2016, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the game was still in development, but not one of the company's top priorities. It is now E3 2017, and again Pikmin 4 is nowhere to be found. But it is still in development, honest.

Miyamoto told Eurogamer that he was sworn to secrecy this year. "I've been told not to share anything about this from PR," he said, "but I can tell you it is progressing."

The move is a bit surprising as Miyamoto had said last year that the game was close to being done. And with this year's reveals for 3DS and Nintendo Switch, including character mainstays Samus Aran, Yoshi, Mario and Kirby in their own new games, The colorful Pikmin are conspicuous in their absence.

Good to hear it's still on the table and not completely scrapped. I imagine they had to rework a significant portion of the game after bringing it over from the Wii U.

Pikmin 3 was excellent, I could do another one next year some time.

i really respect nintendo's approach to game development. they don't want to shove out sequels nonstop if there's nothing interesting to do. I'd rather wait for something good or interesting or at least for me to miss the series a bit

Unfortunately that leads to things like the last F-Zero game coming out on the Gamecube sometimes.
