I am a big fan of the first Alien vs. Predator game by Rebellion, so I figured I'd give Judge Dredd vs. Death a chance and bought it. I get the game in the mail, open it and put it in the drive. Nothing. The drive spins up and won't recognize it. So I pop it out, causing explorer.exe to crash, restart and put it in my other drive. Same thing. pop it out, explorerer.exe crashes, restart. I look at the disk, it looks fine. I start up my laptop. Same thing. I go back to my gaming maching, boot into Ubuntu. Ubuntu can see the disk, so I try to copy the files off the disk so I can install it off the harddrive. It copies about half of them and fails. I take the disk to one of the Mac labs on campus, and the same thing as the Ubuntu box. It can copy the same files, but then craps out. I hop on edonkey and download the iso. Funnilly enough, once I start the game, the program doesn't have any problem with the diskchecking it does when the game starts up.
Flash forward to when I buy FEAR. repeat the process. Repeat this process with varying details with at least two other games.
These are games that I've paid for and the copy protection (all of the games in question are Securom protected games) is preventing me from installing the game that I bought.
It makes it difficult to be really upset about piracy since piracy is what has allowed me to play at least 4 games that I paid for. It is getting to the point where I'll buy the game and check online if it has Securom on it. If it does I won't even bother trying to use the disks to install it. I'll just download the iso.
