Reading books, why buy a book when you can check it out for free at a library? Used games are one thing, used DVD's are another, and being able to get free books to read from a library hasn't killed the book industry so far.
What is the games industry doing that would cause such harm from people buying 2nd hand copies? Is the games industry trying to get too rich off it's work? Maybe you're not supposed to make more than a teacher makes for creating textures for Same Old Shooter 5.
I don't know, but I found the original story a sad one of how money ruined an artists outlook and less of how pirates came in and stole his house. I'm not defending piracy at all, I see how it's as bad as say shoplifting is to the local shop owner. Games and gamemakers will always be around, just as singers will be, books, movies, and more will be even if there is no money behind it and the ones in it for the art and not the money probably will produce much better work in the end. Goooooo nature!
