The game industry had it's best year EVER last year, November alone was almost 2 BILLION dollars.
"It's clear to me that 2006 is set to be a record-breaking year by a wide margin. With the industry up year-to-date, we're on track to achieving that $13 billion we talked about before, and maybe even closer to $14 billion,"

Let's talk about the software now.
In the software front, Gears of War took top honors, selling one million units and grossing sales of $61.5 million (including the collector's edition) for Microsoft. Following closely behind with 896K units was Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII, which raked in $49 million. In third place was Nintendo's Zelda: Twilight Princess with 412K units and $20.2 million. RedOctane/Activision also did quite well with Guitar Hero II which took fourth place, selling 356K units for a total of $28 million. Completing the top ten were WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 (THQ), Call of Duty 3 on 360 (Activision), Madden NFL 2007 on PS2 (EA), Need for Speed: Carbon on PS2 (EA), Nintendogs: Dalmation & Friends on DS (NOA) and Pokemon Ranger on DS (NOA).
All of these games except for GH2, and Zelda were available ~2 weeks before retail in the warez channels. They still manage to sell a ridiculous amount even to this day. I just find it hard to believe that developers of AAA titles are really suffering.
I've read all of your comments about piracy and all that, I agree with you about the tech support shit that went on. That's just insane. But c'mon, piracy causing you to lose your house? Maybe back when he was developing his game for Atari and he was just a one man show but in 2007, there is no way that is true.
Too many developers are focusing on piracy, you WON'T and CAN'T stop it. There is just no way. Well there is, every game has to become a MMO. Devs should be focusing on making their game fun and original. I'm not using this as an excuse but jesus, can we stop getting sequel after sequel please.
I'm not saying piracy is ok (it's not) but jeez, melodramatic much? The games industry is certainly not hurting in the grand scheme of things anymore. $14 billion in revenue last year is nothing to scoff at.
I have no problems paying for games, the problem is the value for my $60 or $50. I bought SiN Episodes for the full price. I pre-loaded it through Steam, and you know what? It was one of the most awful games I've played. I felt betrayed because I paid good money for that and I love Ritual. I felt burned.
This comes to my other point, more companies need to release demos! People pirate games and have a "shareware" or "try before you buy" mentality. I cannot tell you how often I have heard people say "I d/led it to try it". It's a double edge sword though, if Ritual released a demo of SiN Episodes, I know I wouldn't have bought it :(
Piracy is affecting the industry, but it's not the noose around the neck like everyone says. It's not an escape goat, you have to learn to just deal with it. Honestly. I bet 90% of the people on this very site have pirated software in their day. Most of us being in mid-twenties/thirties know that it's wrong and we (for the most part) buy games/software, but back when we were young and didn't have the income, you bet your ass pirating was the only option.
Hopefully this makes sense. If this is too much detail mods, feel free to nuke it :(
