Its 1.10am in the UK, I am still up because this fucking update takes so fucking long, I have work in the morning and I want to go to bed. Every time I think it's done it restarts and does some other bullshit. If I'd known I would have done it tomorrow >:(

Yeah the update for me took about 2 hours total. First it had to backup, then install the OS, then restore the backup, then restore the iPhone apps. A coworker of mine spent almost all day installling and gave up.

It's actually not as grand as it sounds. You can only lock it into Portrait mode. If you have an app or something in landscape and turn on the lock, it changes it back to portrait, which I found to be weird. I'd like to lock my phone when doing heavy texting and web surfing in portrait mode. :\

It's on the multitasking tray that is disabled. It's pretty retarded. They should have just had a tray popup with only rotation lock and ipod controls.

The OS installs pretty quick, but the resync of everything... yeah it's not quick. Good news is that you dont have to sync everything to play with it. Uncheck music syncing, or podcasts, or whatever else you dont want right now and it should go much faster if it only has to sync your apps. Then plug it in overnight and let it sync your media.

I've installed most of the iOS4 betas and each time I would wait about 10-20 minutes for the OS to install. Then it would start syncing everything from the backup. This is on a 8GB 3G. I've never seen these hour+ waits unless it's syncing gigs of media.

Some people here are saying Apple managed to make the background image affect performance.

So not only are they fags and cunts, they employ poor programmers as well.

Just a guess, but the RAM didn't get bumped until the 3GS. That's probably why (in addition to not wanting to special-case some UI to do it on the 3G/older iPod Touch)

Not being able to NOT have a wallpaper is lame. Covering the lens, taking a photo, and setting that to the wallpaper works but what a stupid thing to have to do.

OK on my 3G after a 2.75 hr procedure and a reboot (because it was fucking slow) everything seems to be good and I dare say things seem faster/quicker. Could just be a perception thing (the launch animation is faster, the page scrolling is smoother) but I dare say things are faster now.
