Overwatch release date announced

We have no doubt this is the official release date for Overwatch.

Update: Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed Overwatch will release on May 24, 2016. Those who pre-purchase or preorder the game on any platform will gain early access to the Open Beta for you and a friend between May 3-4. Everyone else will be able to play during the all-access Open Beta period from May 5-9.

Original Story:

The official release date for Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch has apparently been leaked through a pre-emptive marketing campaign over at IGN.

According to the homepage-filled advertisement, Overwatch appears to be releasing on May 24, 2016. This date falls within the Spring 2016 release date window Blizzard previously announced.

Since it’s release date window announcement, we learned additional characters and maps will be free post launch and another Closed Beta took place earlier this month.

We’ve reached out to Blizzard Entertainment for comment on this story, although considering how blatant its release date is in the advertisements at IGN, we have no doubt this is the real release date for Overwatch.

Its amazing, but at the same time every new wave that gets in results in an more frustrating experience. I'm going to hammer out a post before release because people "maining" a hero or playing selfishly and refusing to do what the team needs is really annoying.

I hope that matchmaking addresses this, or that they add a casual mode for people that don't care to play the actual game the way its supposed to.

I think the final ranked queue will clean a lot of this up. People will not have success in it if they main a hero.

        Boo. a 2-day beta is not a beta; it's a demo

Open beta is five days. The closed beta before that is two.

Don't you mean the "early open beta" ;P

I love how companies are bending over backwards to redefine betas and demos as each year passes.

At any rate, I am sad that pre-ordering only gets you a 7 day beta window, and it's only a couple weeks before launch. I'm going to buy it anyway but when this rumor first appeared I really hoped it meant I'd be able to go home today, pre-order, and play!!

Except that the"demo" period anyone can play in is five days, not two.

              Calm yourself

Yeah man I mentioned that (7 days = 5 days for everyone plus 2 days if you preorder). And I don't think my post looks uncalm!

I just want to play nowwww

If you read r/overwatch, people on that sub bitch relentlessly because Blizzard has stuck to more of a classic "beta" mold thus far.

This seems more in response to that.

I dont normally have high expectations for a game before it is released, but I expect Overwatch to be an incredible game people will play for a few years.
