Plants vs Zombies free on PC & Mac from Origin's On the House program
Plants vs Zombies will be free on PC and Mac thanks to Origin's On the House program.
Last month, EA gave away free copies of Battlefield 1942 on Origin. Today, they've made the original Plants vs Zombies free. Like before, there's no catch. Simply add the game to your cart and checkout, and it'll be added to your digital library forever.
This is the third free game from EA's new On the House program. According to the original announcement, the publisher plans on releasing full games, expansions, and more at no cost. They can "appear and disappear at any time." And once you've purchased the game for free, it's yours permanently.
So, why is Origin doing this? "We're gamers, too. We appreciate you making Origin your gaming home ... and besides, who doesn't like free stuff?"

The real reason why they're doing this is easy to figure out: The more people that download Origin, the more chances of someone buying games in the store. It'll be interesting to see if free games will work for them in the long run.

I think they might get somewhere with it, but only if they make a good case why people should use Origin over Steam. Or at least a better case than "because this game is Origin exclusive". Add some features Steam doesn't have, or make improvements to the Origin versions of games. Improving the multiplayer systems on some older games would provide a good incentive to purchase them on Origin, for example.
