Ubisoft Acquires TrackMania Dev Nadeo

11
Publisher Ubisoft today announced it has acquired developer Nadeo, the fellows behind the popular TrackMania racing series.

"We are excited about the idea of introducing TrackMania to an ever-wider audience and sharing the expertise of Nadeo's teams with our company's other developers," said Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot of the deal. Founded in 2000, Nadeo released the first TrackMania in 2003, a multiplayer arcade racing game that allowed players to create their own tracks. The company has released several versions of the game since, including the recent TrackMania DS. A new TrackMania Wii title and a full PC sequel are both in the works.

Over 700,000 PC players log in to play TrackMania on a monthly basis, according to Ubisoft. Around 10 million players have registered with the game, creating 15 million user-made tracks since 2008.

Trackmania Wii is actually already in development at Firebrand Games (the guys who developed Trackmania DS and who are also working on TM DS 2).
