Rock Band 2 Wii Compatible with All Wii Instruments; Developer Apologizes for Delay

Three months after the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2 debuted on store shelves, the PlayStation 2 and Wii editions are finally making their way to retailers this week, prompting developer Harmonix to apologize for the extended delay.

"We want to apologize for the delay in getting RB2 onto the Wii and to reaffirm that we believe that Wii is an amazing and unique fit for Rock Band 2, and one that we care deeply about getting right," the company stated in an official statement. Going forward, Harmonix hopes to release games simultaneously on the Wii and other platforms. The PS2 and Wii editions of Rock Band 2 were co-developed by Pi Studios.

Unlike the belated Wii release of the first Rock Band, the Wii edition of Rock Band 2 is fully-functional compared to its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 brethren. It's got online play, support for downloadable content, world tour mode, and even character customization. Downloadable content can be run off an SD card or the Wii's internal memory.

In addition, Harmonix confirmed that the Wii release of Rock Band 2 will be compatible with all other guitar and drum controllers available for the Wii, such as those for Activision and Vicarious Visions' rival series Guitar Hero. Previously, Harmonix had only been able to guarantee compatibility with Guitar Hero 3 Wii guitars.
