Boxed Up Briefs

While helping Remo with today's media roundup, I ran across an old press release from developer GFI Russia detailing the reasons behind Jagged Alliance 3D becoming JAZZ: Hired Guns and its delayed release. I consider it to be, pretty much, the best thing ever.

"Some restrictions that prevented the game from revealing its great potential have been removed," GFI explained. "A six month period of intensive work without annoying unnecessary attention of western publisher has passed."

As for tonight's briefs, we've got a status update on Heavenly Sword (PS3), a release date for Ace Combat 6 (X360), DirectX 10 support in PT Boats: Knights of the Sea (PC), a PSP firmware update, and a website for Hard to be a God (PC).

  • Heavenly Sword 95% complete

    [ps3]

Developer Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword (PS3) is 95% complete, claims head of production Mat Hart on Ninja Theory's IGN blog. However, Hart is quick to point out that the remaning 5% will entail a lot of work--including tweaking, polishing, balancing, and bug fixing--between now and the game's planned fall release.

  • Ace Combat 6 soars into stores October 23

    [xbox360]

Namco Bandai announced that its Xbox 360 flight action game Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation will arrive in stores on October 23, 2007. The game will be available either by itself at $59.99 or bundled with the two-part Hori-developed ACE-EDGE Flightstick (pictured here) for $149.99.

  • DX10 Boards PT Boats

    [pc]

Developer and publisher Akella's upcoming WWII naval action sim PT Boats: Knights of the Sea (PC) will utilize DirectX 10 for enhanced detail through DX10-compatible video cards, the company announced today. Along with the announcement, the company released two screens, highlighting the different between DirectX 9 and DirectX 10.

PT Boats: Knights of the Sea is slated for a Q4 2007 release.

  • PSP Hits 3.51

    [psp]

Sony has released firmware version 3.51 for the PSP, addressing an exploit discovered last weekend that allows to run unsigned code in the 3.50 firmware. No additional functionality was added in the update, which can be downloaded from Sony's official site or from the PSP's System Update option.

  • Hard to be a God site opens

    [pc]

Publisher Akella launched the official website for Burut CT's action RPG Hard to be a God (PC). Based on the Strugatsky Brothers novel of the same name, Hard to be a God puts players in the role of medieval secret service high school graduate who gains access to such powerful technology that many consider him a god.

Featuring up to 5 different endings, Hard to be a God is due out in Q3 of this year.

How come every comparison shots between DX9 and DX10 games always shows DX9 games that look like DX8 games? It's like they can't do lighting in DX9, except for the billion games already released with DX9 lighting.

The answer is obvious. They are trying to convince pc gamers that DX 10 is worth upgrading to. We need some incentive to get a new OS and video card right?
