Gallagher Named ESA President

Following the planned exit of Doug Lowenstein earlier this year, the Entertainment Software Association has now named Michael D. Gallagher (pictured left) as its new president.

Gallagher--the former chief telecommunications and policy adviser to the Bush Administration--will be in charge of representing the interests of U.S. computer and console game publishers. "Mike's outstanding technology, policy, and government relations experience makes him a strong fit for the ESA, where issues like intellectual property, self-regulation, and industry social and economic contributions are at the forefront of the agenda," said the ESA's Robbie Bach.

"With over two-thirds of American heads of households playing video games...the business is poised for tremendous growth," said Gallagher. "I look forward to working with federal and state leaders to foster an environment where the industry and its consumers can thrive."

Lowenstein recently used his departure from the post to defend the ESA's charter, asserting the organization's accomplishments as well as lashing out at what he referred to as "lazy reporting" by the gaming press.
