So here it is...my review of the N-Gage. I basically say as much at the end of the article, but I'd just like to point out once more that it's with no particular glee that I post this negative review of Nokia's serious entry into the handheld gaming market. As a hardcore gamer, I'll play games on anything if it's good enough, and I happen to really like quite a few of the long-dead GBA competitors, particularly the Lynx and Neo Geo Pocket Color. And there's nothing that says Nokia can't turn this N-Gage thing around if they're really serious...but spending millions on an ad campaign isn't going to help when reviews like this are running across the country today. So we'll wait and see how this turns out. Again, here's my review, and the gist is this: don't spend $300 on this thing unless you really, really want it. And even then, try it first.

PS2 PSX Unveiled As expected, Sony unveiled their PSX ubersystem today at an event in Japan. The system throws everything imaginable into one box: a satellite tuner, PS2-compatible console, TiVo-like television timeshifting, CD/DVD burning, USB 2.0 and Memory Stick ports, and a ton more I'm forgetting to mention. The system will be available in two models: one with a 160 GB hard drive that will retail for roughly $719, and a second with a 250 GB hard drive (!) that will retail for about $900. Here are some more details and a pair of images of the two models, which will be out in Japan before the end of the year and will be available here in early 2004.
PS2 Dreamcast Rez Creator Leaves Sega According to IGN, Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the super-cool creator of games like Rez and Space Channel 5 has left Sega. This decision on his part follows Sega's consolidation of his development studio United Game Artists (which merged with Sonic Team). Mizuguchi is quoted on IGN saying, "Once I've left the company, I'll become a free creator. I'll be making a company where I can act freely."
PS2 Silent Hill Studio Working on Secret Project? Just 24 hours after the news that Silent Hill 4 is in production for release in 2004, Computer and Video Games is reporting that Konami Entertainment Tokyo is primarily focused right now on a second, ultra-secret project unrelated to the Silent Hill franchise. Sadly, that's pretty much all there is to this story right now.
n-gage FIFA 2004 on N-Gage This is one of those apps that will go a long way towards making the N-Gage more attractive in Europe...Electronic Arts announced today a second N-Gage title: FIFA 2004 is in production, and will be out before the end of the year. The game will be in full 3D, feature some 300 teams, and fully support Bluetooth multiplayer.

Metal Slug 3 Not Canned, Japanese Release Date for SVC Chaos SNK fans can relax, as IGN has confirmed with SNK Playmore that contrary to rumors floating around the web, the PS2 port of Metal Slug 3 has not been canceled. In other SNK on PS2 news, SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos will be released for PS2 in Japan on December 18th.
PS2 Sony 0wns Europe Computer and Video Games is reporting that following their £30 price cut in Europe, the PS2 has surged to five times its usual weekly unit sales average. Well gosh, you see what happens when you don't overcharge in the UK? Now if only more people would use that same logic to help out our gaming brothers in Australia...
GameCube Nintendo Shafts the UK In an interesting counterpoint to the story above, this story at Gamesindustry.biz reports that the Consumers' Association of Great Britain is speaking out against Nintendo over their recent European price cut. It would seem that the GameCube is £10 more in the UK than it is in the rest of Europe, and they're not pleased. Can you blame 'em?

Console Game of the Evening: Tetris for the Game Boy. "This is the game that made Nintendo's Game Boy king of the handhelds. Very simple, but addicting, gameplay and excellent music made this an instant classic. I still have my original copy and play it on my GBA almost weekly." (submitted by Prozium).
