I guess it's been a year since my last game preview and it's probably gonna be as long until my next one, but here is my preview of Devastation, Digitalo's upcoming first person shooter. Several new screenshots are included.
Pretty much any type of weapon is in the game. Of course there is the usual arsenal of pistols/shotguns/sniper rifles/assault rifles, but there are several exotic weapons as well. For example you have a laser rifle which disintegrates enemies with an incredibly neat looking effect (it looks much like when a vampire is staked in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the movie Blade), a bolt gun with explosive bolts, and of course the much talked about rat drone. I have to say, this is one odd weapon. It's not so much that the idea of having a rodent that you can control around the level and making it explode that's odd, but seeing a living rat squirm around in your hand..is certainly weird ...You can also find previews at Gameguru Mania and XGR.
Sounds cool to me *wants to play* Slicing of limbs is hot
indeed; I've been waiting for an Unreal engine game that gets weapon feedback right. Unreal just had headshots or the full body gibbing sequence, and the latter was pretty goofy at times with the larger enemies. UT had pretty much the same thing; Deus Ex had gibbing that you'd see VERY rarely (had to conserve those LAMs!); UT2K3 and Unreal 2 had gibbing only if the fatal blow was strong enough (i.e.: no post-mortem gibbing).
I have a feeling that DNF will have something along the same lines; they CAN'T forbid Duke from kicking a dead horse!
