Call of Duty: Modern Warfare menu suggests loot boxes could return

A bugged after-action report could suggest that Supply Drop loot boxes are coming to the new Modern Warfare afterall.

If you’re one of the many PlayStation 4 players diving into the Modern Warfare beta this weekend, then you’re probably going to be a little disappointed to learn that a bugged after-action report could be pointing towards loot boxes appearing in the final game.

Of course, we have no official response just yet, but Twitter user @NerosCinema shared a video yesterday that appears to offer a “Common Supply Drop” as a reward for reaching Rank 6 in the beta. You can see the video for yourself by checking out the original Tweet.

Now, before we all go getting upset and blowing things out of proportion, this could just be a bug. But, in a series that has seen such a troubled past with loot boxes and Supply Drops, this possible bug is a bit concerning. See, in the past instances of Call of Duty when Supply Drops have appeared, they’ve held more than just cosmetic items like skins. Instead, they’ve also held guns, which has led many Call of Duty players to feel ripped off by the fact that they don’t have all of the game’s content unlockable through in-game means. It makes the title feel pay-to-win in a way, especially when you start digging into the available microtransactions that many games launch with in this day and age.

As stated before, though, we aren’t really quite sure exactly what this means for the final version of Modern Warfare, as this could just be a bug from the beta. All we can really do is wait and see how things progress and see if Activision provides any kind of additional context for the issue. We’ll keep an eye on things ourselves, so make sure you keep your eyes glued to our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare news hub for the latest info about the game.
