How to get new vehicles and vehicle upgrades in Borderlands 3

Getting new vehicles in Borderlands 3 isn’t difficult. In fact, each of the basic types of vehicles—the Outrunner, Technical, and the Cyclone—will be unlocked just by playing through the campaign missions. This means you won’t have to jump through any complex hoops to get behind the wheel of each of these bad boys. However, if you want to get your hands on new upgrades, you’re going to need to do a little bit of work.

Borderlands 3 - all vehicles
You can unlock up to three different types of vehicles in Borderlands 3.

All throughout the game players will come across various types of enemy vehicles. These vehicles can be hijacked by running up to them and pressing a button. This allows you to grab a vehicle at just about any point when you’re exploring and makes it easy to get around the world. If you want to unlock new upgrades, though, you’re going to need to keep an eye out for special versions of the Outrunner, Technical, and Cyclone. These vehicles are sometimes driven by enemies, but other times they will be positioned in places that require you to figure a way up to them.

This adds a nice little mini-game sequence to earning vehicle upgrades and also adds one more thing for you to do in the world. Of course, you don’t have to get any of the upgrades, but if you want to spice up your vehicle with different wheels, weapons, or even paint jobs, the option is there for you.

That’s really all there is to know about getting new vehicles and vehicle upgrades in Borderlands 3. Now that you know what you’re doing, head back over to our Borderlands 3 guide and walkthrough for even more help.
