Perfect World Entertainment announced that its next major update for Star Trek Online is coming this May, and Star Trek: Discovery fans will definitely want to check it out.

The free-to-play MMO will add new missions inspired by the CBS exclusive TV show Star Trek: Discovery, and will feature Captain Gabriel Lorca, played by Jason Isaacs, and Commander Ellen Landry, voiced by Rekha Sharma. Star Trek Online players will take flight along with the U.S.S. Buran and figure out what happened to Lorca and Landry before they made their way aboard the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery.

Rise of Discovery also includes a new reputation and ship system update that will scale all Tier 6 starships up to individual player levels. This means all Captains will have access to the game's best ships.

Discovery fans who were left wondering what happened to Gabriel Lorca in the past before the Star Trek crew met up with him in the first season of the show will be able to explore his past in a new mission that brings Lorca and Landry together aboard the U.S.S. Buran. The pair answer a distress call from the Discovery before it sustains damage from the Klingons. Captain Lorca is the ship's sole survivor and ends up on an ice moon with Klingon search parties scattered about.

The new content spans two episodes and it will become available on May 14. In the meantime, you can jump onboard with Star Trek Online as it's a free-to-play MMORPG. You can become a Captain of a Federation starship and interact with many of the popular characters and races from throughout the Star trek mythos.

If that all sounds like it's up your alley, be sure to sign up and make an account before May 14, where you can start checking out prequel missions for some of Discovery's most influential characters.
