Update: There's no official statement yet, but Forbes contributor Joe Parlock is sharing a wave of updates via his Twitter account.

He adds a host of other details, but consider them all rumors for now:

  • The studio remaining will finish The Walking Dead: Final Season
  • The game studio has gone bankrupt
  • Every other game is canceled
  • The studio nearly closed in Spring 2018 and the Netflix deal fell through
  • The publishing arm may also be closing
  • Only Minecraft: Story Mode and 7 Days to Die were making a profit

Original Story:

It is being reported that Telltale Games, the studio behind episodic adventure games based on The Walking Dead and Batman, has laid off a large number of staff.

The Verge is reporting that a large number of staff were laid off and that the studio is going to retain a small team of around 25. All that is known for certain at this moment is that one of the developers with Telltale recently revealed that they're no longer employed. They did also follow up with a tweet that stated that they're "devastated for all of us." There was also the post below from Facebook, which has been deleted and is potentially hinting at these layoffs. We've reached out for comments and will update as more is revealed.

We at Shacknews wish all of the people affected speedy reemployment.

Damn there's nothing worse than losing your Job without notice, Sending good vibes to everyone who lost their job today. That said, while their games told great stories, the game themselves were awful. Boiling down to Conversion pickers that didn't effect the story in any meaningful way, with hardly any "Gameplay" elements. Tales of Money Island, was probably their best work, cause that game actually had Puzzles and gameplay. This was clearly a Game studio that wanted to make movies, not games.

Ya,That's gotta the worst. The Morale alone would make me just as depressed, sad and probably angry as the people who lost their jobs.

Nope. Having been in both situations, I can assure you it's much better to be depressed, sad and angry while still getting paid than to have no income.
