The world of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia begins to open up once you complete Act I. Doing so gives you control of Celica, one of Fire Emblem Echoes' two main characters. Your next objective is to find the Temple of Mila and sniff around to uncover what caused the goddess to vanish.

You can't reach the Temple of Mila without a ship, but the Greatport has closed its gates to prevent ships from coming in and out of the area until pirate attacks in the region come to a halt. Your objective is to squash the pirates—but to do that you'll need to recruit Saber, an NPC who must be convinced to join your merry band of adventurers. Once you recruit Saber, you'll be well on your way to getting a ship.

Recruit Saber

As luck would have it, you won't have much of a problem convincing Saber to join your ranks. Sally forth to Novis Greatport and speak to the swordsman in the local tavern. This is saber, and he's not exactly friendly toward strangers. He snubs you because you're a woman; fortunately, you've got other paths available to you.

Leave the tavern and head to the wharf. To your left you should see the Old-Timer. He recaps the trouble stemming from pirate attacks and then offers to smuggle you out to sea, thereby enabling you to circumvent the travel ban. Of course, he's got a condition: your party needs to grow.

Return to the tavern and talk to Saber again. A cutscene will play, after which Celica will offer a rare dagger in exchange for Saber joining the group.

Get Your Ship

Now that your band of swashbucklers has grown by one, swash on back to the wharf and tell the old-timer your good news. Celica will bring him up to speed, and the golden oldie will make good on his word to sneak you on out to sea. From here, you'll board your ship and kick off the next leg of Fire Emblem Echoes' story.

Your party's big and only going to get bigger. Learn how to manage your inventory to make sure everyone has the supplies they need to survive in battle, or read about everything new and different in Fire Emblem Echoes compared to Fire Emblem Gaiden, the game that inspired Echoes.
