A few options: every unit that is returned for service would be replaced with a new unit that included this security upgrade, ala Apple's pentalobular screws mandatory physical security upgrade. Sony's service agreement probably includes "repair or replace at Sony's descretion" wording. Concurrently, Sony should initiate an incentive-based voluntary recall with the intention of replacing every non-security compliant unit. Every new unit that is manufactured would have this security upgrade. All of these options are costly.
It really depends on what Sony's focus is. The cheaper alternative is to continue to wage digital warfare against code hackers.
