The cinematic angles for dialogues and cutscenes just emphasize the flawed look of their features, especially facial ones and make the whole thing appear to resemble some terrible Sunday morning budget CGI cartoon. They could have made it much more stylized and interesting looking, I don't know why they settled for this.
The point of Mass Effect's conversation system is delivering dialogue in a seamless way that resembles a movie. No breaks, natural dialogue flow, cinematic camera angles. Their style is in between something realistic and fine looking like Mass Effect and something straight up cartoony and stylized like World of Warcraft and it's 100% awful. I have no interest in seeing what these characters have to say. It totally clashes with the presentation.
