PSOne Classics now live on Vita

The PlayStation Vita 1.8 update is out, enabling PSOne Classics and packing some new usability features.

It's a bit odd that the PlayStation Vita didn't include PSOne Classics support from the start, but better late than never. The 1.8 update has gone live, including a handful of usability revisions alongside the new (old) games. Sony has only officially released a handful of them on the store, but apparently many more are available through a PlayStation 3 workaround.

The PlayStation Blog includes a brief walkthrough video of the new features. They include cursor control, back-touch for scrolling, selectable playback speed in videos, revisions for maps, notifications settings, and the cross-controller feature to work on concert with the PlayStation 3.

It also details the nine current PSOne Classics that are officially available, including Arc the Lad, Cool Boarders 2, Final Fantasy VII, Hot Shots Golf 2, Jet Moto, Syphon Filter, Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal 2, and Wild Arms. But Joystiq reports that many more can be loaded onto your Vita by downloading them on the PlayStation 3 first. Check out the full list below:

i came to my senses. i own ff7 on psn and can buy xenogears on psn aswell.

so basically i would have to play in the living room instead of in bed. not worth 250 bucks.

wait till xmas, buy the AC3 bundle with game and memory card. either that or keep an eye out in the EB, best buy, etc. flyers/emailers for bundle deals. There are constantly bundles with the memory card and and a game from launch for the cost of the system without game or memory card. IMO, the price is right it just sucks that you have to dole out another wad of cash for a fucking memory card which then puts it into the too much money area.

i'd have waited to get mine but my xmas gift card was burning a hole in my wallet. also the bundled cards are usually only 4GB but just an FYI, if you're only interested in playing physical media based games that will get you going but i ended up buying the largest card and have been buying all my titles online for 4 or so dollars off and no tax in canada which is making up for the high price in memory cards.

Ah damn, yea. My main issue is that I have breath of fire 3 (UK version) and it's still not available on PSN classics :(. I have a lot of rare PSP games that I can't replace if I get a Vita. Hence why I haven't gotten one yet.

It's not showing up on my copy list (from the PS3) and it's not "officially released" in the US yet, so it's not on the store if you browse from the Vita.

Europe and Japan each has a different list, though, I think you guys get more games on this wave. Because Sony is the dumbest smart kid I know.
