Diablo 3 patch coming next week

Blizzard continues to try to address fan backlash from the troublesome Diablo III launch, announcing a new patch coming next week to fix more issues in the game.

Much like the massive monsters in its games, Blizzard has created a monster of its own with the flawed release of Diablo III. From server issues to reports of account hacking to unannounced hotfixes, the company has been in scramble mode to get everything fixed.

Now, Blizzard plans a patch next week to fix client issues and additional bugs. In a post on the official forums, community manager Nethaera said additional server maintenance is also planned to ensure long term game stability. No patch details were given. The loss of achievements by certain players soon after launch is still being investigated, the post said.

Because of the problems, the already delayed launch of the real-money auction house has been put off indefinitely.

Aside from the initial access issues, I've had little trouble with the game and continue to play through Nightmare level, just now entering Act III. Check out our Diablo III review, as well as the escapades of my Monk through the normal game.

That first line reads like an awful sports writer struggling to make puns out of team names. The issues are real and fair to bring up, but framing it in such an exaggerated way seems like he's just trying to craft link bait without any substance.

In my opinion the server issues are the only real problem of the ones mention in the article and they haven't been that bad aside from the first couple days.

Unless Blizzard is hiding a security problem, the rash of hacking's are obviously due to the surge of BNet users Diablo has introduced. If less then 0.5% of diablo's users are dumb enough to log into a malicious website, get malicious software on their machine or have a horrible password that is well over ten thousand users.

The unannounced hotfixes is such a minor thing and Blizzard already has said they will be posting potential fixes before they are applied from now on.

Yeah I agree, server issues are the only real concern to me (and my experience has been fine after day 1). The "hacking" thing seems overblown.

Much of the rest is balance tweaking, and no one should have a problem with that. Having millions of players tends to bring up balance issues that weren't obvious before.

Seems like news sites are just trying to hold stories up since D3 is a hot topic, but the attention doesn't reflect the reality of it.

Ramping up the Diablo III problems just a bit there. For the most part it's been pretty damn smooth for me and my friends playing it. Gameplay wise this is a super polished barrel of fun. The aesthetics are beautiful, the score is top notch, the cinematics are breathtaking. Yeah it was a shitty launch, but anyone with half a brain is over it now and enjoying the game (if this kinda game is your bag.. baby).

I'm half expecting this to be aimed squarely at the BDF because his review and other comments have been pretty evenhanded. It's hilarious to read the hypercritical reactions, though.
