Xbox 360 getting cloud storage

Cloud storage is coming to the Xbox 360, allowing access to game saves, full profile info, MS Points, Achievements, and friends lists.

Cloud storage is being added to the Xbox 360, according to an e-mail from corporate VP of Xbox Live Mark Whitten. The functionality will add the ability to access game saves, full profile information, Microsoft Points for purchasing, Achievements, and friends lists. The announcement also promises the end of difficult "gamertag recovery," since you should be able to recover it from anywhere easily.

A timeline wasn't mentioned for the new feature, but it seems likely that it will hit this fall alongside the other announced updates like live TV.

You'd have to create a profile on their machine I assume.

It's more of a transfer. You have to download it all (which takes a few minutes for some reason) and then transfer it back to your home when you get back. It's a big enough pain that people just don't do it.

That sucks. There should be a temp option just for this purpose. Or hell, just read the info straight from the cloud and not really store profile info on the xbox itself so all your saved games and stuff are uploaded to the cloud automatically.

Isn't that what this announcement is all about?

Don't we already have mobile MS points / achievements / friends lists? If I move my profile to another xbox I have access to all that stuff.

Mobile save games will be awesome though.

mark my words (get a pen). This is a test bed for the next gen. The big three want to make this sort of platform work so badly they are going to push it for everything its worth. Its would take care of the big shareholder/upper management concerns. Piracy, used game sales and a handful of other lesser concerns.
