Report: 3DS 'bricked' after pirate activity
A Japanese retailer states that firmware updates to the 3DS could brick the system if it detects illegal hardware or firmware customization.
If you plan on getting a shiny new Nintendo 3DS when it launches later this month, you should probably take care not to use flash carts to play ROMs. A report from GoNintendo claims that firmware updates may render the 3DS inoperable (aka "bricked") if it detects fishy activity.
Japanese retailer Enterking has updated its site with a warning about the possibility. The (very) rough translation states, "In case if you use equipment which is illegal or unapproved by Nintendo or if you do customization which is unapproved by Nintendo, there is a possibility that Nintendo 3DS become non bootable by system update."
This is all highly speculative at the moment, but Nintendo has promised stronger piracy measures for the 3DS, and has mentioned that automatic firmware updates are part of the effort.
In response to an inquiry, a Nintendo spokesperson told Shacknews, "We do not discuss product security details (for obvious reasons), nor can we discuss the details of countermeasures available in the Nintendo 3DS system."

Move forward? Do you realize how fucking retarded you sound? This sense of entitlement that hackers have is complete bull. Everyone justifies it by saying that one lost sell isn't going to hurt the company but that is just ignorance. As more and more people "steal" games they hurt the developers which in turn causes a drop in sales. If you can't afford the games then you are not meant to have them tough luck, get a fucking job and buy them legit.

how many homebrew games do you have vs ROMs?
I've never seen one homebrew anything on a flash cart, ever. I know they exist, but everyone that has a cart has it packed full of roms, and none of them have any idea how to rip a game from a store bought cart for "backup purposes"
I'm sure there is a dude out there pissed off at all the software pirates for giving him a bad rap, but I'm still waiting for him to show up on Ripley's Believe it or Not -

You suck at understanding analogies. Just because everyone is defending homebrew doesn't mean that it's actually the case. Maybe a few people want to use it for legitimate reasons but most people want to hack their 3DS to play free games. Just like people defend burning DVD's for the sake of having a backup when in reality they want to burn illegal copies. Your comment about every gun owner wanting to rob a bank is just as stupid as people asking you if you would jump off a cliff if everyone else did. Maybe I'm wrong though, I guess everyone is honest and nice in this world :)

So a company puts out a game that has a 5 hour SP and charges the same as a game with a 20 hour SP, or a game with a 6 hour SP and MP ? Ive been fucked over by buying games, Im done with buying crappy games, im just going to rent them. Pirating games isnt destroying the gaming community, its companies putting out crap games and then blaming pirates.

I have no problem paying for a game when it is worth it. But when I have to pay more per hour then what I make its retarded. Minimum wage is $9 and a video game is $50 for a 5 hour story, that's $10 an hour. Im done buying games until I try them out, if they are worth it I will buy it, if not I will keep playing them for free.
I wont buy a game with only single player unless I know its worth it ( fallout 3/ NV, Red Dead Redemption ect...)

I'm pretty sure that piracy fucked the PSP. The "gaming community" may not care much either way about the affects of piracy. But after investing a fair ammount into R&D to make the systems, I'm sure Sony and Nintendo prefer not to get the short stick at the end of the line. I'm sorry you've picked up some shitty games, but how about doing a little reasearch and reading a review or two before picking up the latest installment of My Little Pony.
