Garden Warfare team turns into PopCap HD, working on new IP

PopCap's odd Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare launched on Xbox One this week. The odd shooter spinoff of PopCap's original strategy IP was initially thought to be a joke, but it's been a resounding success so far. The team that made the game is now being dubbed "PopCap HD," and they're working on a brand new game.

Peggle 2 videos showcase new Master abilities

Peggle 2 will soon be available on Xbox One. PopCap doesn't really do much to change the formula for the long-awaited sequel, beyond introducing new Masters to play as. Five videos show off the five different abilities you can unlock with the five Masters you'll be able to play as. For example, Gnorman can make pegs explode into lightning to cause easier combos. Luna lets you bypass blue pegs, letting you aim for orange pegs more easily. And Bjorn returns, letting you see a longer view of a ball's trajectory.

Peggle 2 producer explains exactly what's new for the sequel

Peggle 2 is, simply put, more Peggle. But lead producer Jared Neuss attempted to explain to Shacknews exactly what's new about the long-awaited sequel--and why it's debuting on Xbox One.

"It's a lot more immersive than it used to be in the past, where it felt like you were playing just a series of challenges," Neuss said. Masters are the highlight for Peggle 2, with new over-the-top powers, new Master-specific victory songs, and new art that brings everything together. Peggle to receive 'stylistic reboot'

Peggle to receive 'stylistic reboot'

Does Peggle no longer thrill you the way it once did? Sure, the combination of unicorns, rainbows, bouncing balls, and Ode to Joy made something truly alluring. But it's been over four years since PopCap Games introduced its pachinko game to the world, and maybe it just doesn't have the same luster.

But you'll be able to give Peggle the makeover it deserves. A new job listing reveals that PopCap is looking to give the series a "stylistic reboot."

Peggle reaches 30 million downloads

Peggle reaches 30 million downloads

PopCap's odd unicorn-starring, ball-busting puzzle game, Peggle, has reached more than 30 million downloads since its debut in 2007. Sure, that's across a number of releases on nearly every platform imaginable, but that's still an impressive feat nonetheless.

Given those kinds of numbers, it doesn't seem too surprising why EA bought the company for as much as it did.
