EA's Need for Speed racing series has bounced around from developer to developer over the past few years, having previously been made chiefly by EA Black Box, but things are now stabilizing with Criterion leading the franchise. The creator of Burnout and maker of the upcoming Need for Speed Most Wanted won't specify exactly what its role is, but vice president Alex Ward has said the series is "definitely a Criterion gig now."

New Need for Speed confirmed for 2012

New Need for Speed confirmed for 2012

With the recent reveals of Black Ops 2 and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, a new game must take up the mantle of "worst-kept secret in the games industry." That's looking more and more to be the next Need for Speed game, largely rumored to be Most Wanted 2.

The sequel appeared in EA's financial report as an "announced title," a mistake given that the publisher didn't announce the game.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2 spotted on retail site

Like clockwork, Electronic Arts has been releasing Need for Speed games every year since 2002. Last year saw the release of two: The Run and Shift 2 Unleashed. So, what can we expect this year? If a retail leak is any indication, it's a "sequel" to 2005's Most Wanted.

Need for Speed movie being considered by Hollywood studios

Movie studios and video game publishers are still looking for a way to profit off of some cross-media synergy. According to a new report, Electronic Arts has been shopping one of its more recognizable franchises for a Hollywood adaptation: Need for Speed.

A movie adaptation of the game would be able to compete with Universal's still-popular Fast and the Furious series. Paramount is supposedly the frontrunner in the bid, but all major studios minus Universal.

Need for Speed The Run gets back in the car

Need for Speed The Run gets back in the car

I walked, nay, ran from Need for Speed The Run unimpressed at E3. EA was trying something new with the franchise, promising a story that will get you out of the car with action-packed QTE-ridden sequences.

It wasn't very good. And worst of all, the driving wasn't much fun either. One month later, EA returns to show off more of The Run. This time, I'm driving through the Nevada desert, with an EA rep saying that the on-foot portion of the game makes up only ten percent of the package. I could only think "this is more like it" as I was handed the controller, keys to a nitrous-filled sports car, racing against opponents through the desert.
