Following a withdrawal of studio support from the Halo film adaptation last October, executive producer Peter Jackson (Meet the Feebles, Bad Taste, The Making of 'The Frighteners') has voiced his belief that the project will get back on track amidst the inevitable furor that will accompany the release of Bungie's Halo 3 (X360) later this year.
Speaking to The Dominion Post, the filmmaker (pictured left) emphasized that he and longtime co-writer Fran Walsh (Meet the Feebles, The Frighteners, Jack Brown Genius) will maintain involvement only if director Neill Blomkamp remains attached. Blomkamp, director of the well-received
science-fiction short film Alive in Joburg, was announced as the film's director last August.
Said Jackson, "We wouldn't want to do it with anybody else. It'll be Neill's call."

Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has inked a deal with Electronic Arts to produce a live-action movie based off EA's popular The Sims series (pictured left). The script will be written by Brian Lynch, who recently wrote and directed Big Helium Dog and is also credited as a co-writer on Scary Movie 3. Norbit producer John Davis has been tasked with the project, with EA's The Sims Division studio vice president Rod Humble participating as well.
No story details were disclosed, leaving it unclear how the film will be able to recreate the appeal of The Sims' open-ended freedom within the confines of a
non-interactive medium.
"'The Sims' has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," noted Humble. "Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."

Variety has an update on the previously reported Kane & Lynch film coming from Lionsgate, suggesting that Jieho Lee (pictured left) is in talks to direct. Having directed several short films, Lee wrote and directed full-length film, The Air I Breathe, last year.
Lionsgate has commissioned two scripts, one from Kyle Ward and one from Lee and The Air I Breathe co-writer Bob DeRosa, with shooting set to begin in the fall. Ward wrote and produced the 2005 short film 3 Rounds, and recently had a script optioned by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes. Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter, who are producing the film version of IO Interactive's Hitman series for 20th
Century Fox, will produce Kane & Lynch as well.
Based off IO Interactive's co-op-centric Kane & Lynch: Dead Men set for release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC later this year, the movie will follow the same basic premise as the game, in which the mercenary Kane and self-medicated psychopath Lynch escape from a prison transport and eventually attempt to take down an elite organization known as The Seven. The film will likely feature the same predilection towards brutal violence that IO Interactive has shown in the various screenshots and artwork of the game.

A third Tomb Raider movie starring Angelina Jolie (pictured left) may yet be produced, according to a recent interview with SCi product acquisition director and Eidos co-founder Ian Livingstone. However, the film will likely depend on sales of Crystal Dynamics' upcoming Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary (PS2, PSP, PC), the remake of Core Design's 1996 Saturn, PlayStation and PC original.
"At this moment in time it's still not green-lit, but the signs are there," Livingstone told Mirror.co.uk. "Paramount have talked about the film for a long time, and I've had meetings with them. They're willing to put a scriptwriter on board. Angelina Jolie has an option to do a third movie."
The first Lara Croft: Tomb Raider feature, helmed by director Simon West, hit theaters in 2001. The Jan de Bont-directed followup, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, arrived in 2003. Both were met with extremely poor critical response.
"I think when they see how successful Anniversary will be and realise that the world is still in love with Lara," Livingstone added, "they'll be more inclined to exercise their option."
