Star Citizen opens Hornet sales with real-time graphics commercial

Star Citizen continues to tease us with what the future of gaming looks like. Spoiler-alert: it will be pretty. A new commercial for the game's Hornet crafts is rendered in real-time (in 4K, no less), running on super-computers that will make your current rig cry.

Of course, this is a commercial after all, and the commercial's real purpose isn't simply to make your mouth drop. No, it's to get you to buy things. The game's store has been updated with Hornets, and they're quite pricey. The "Weekend Warrior" package, for example, goes for $185.

Chris Roberts: Time between my new games was getting too long

In 2001, after helming multiple entries in the Wing Commander series--followed by Privateer and Freelancer--Roberts decided he needed a break. One of the key reasons was the technological limitations of the time.

Star Citizen is Wing Commander creator's next game

Star Citizen is Wing Commander creator's next game

Just one short month ago, we reported that Chris Roberts, the creative mind behind titles such as Wing Commander, Privateer, and Freelancer, was working on a new game. This past Monday, Roberts dropped in to give us a first-look at Star Citizen, and talk about his return to creating epic space sims.

If you were a PC gamer back in the early 1990's, there's a pretty good chance that you're familiar with the Wing Commander series. As a gamer, I'd thoroughly enjoyed much of Roberts' work, so I was was optimistic about the early tech demo.
