Well, I say who gives a fuck. We don't. Shackers don't.
We pretty much know what Duke is, what it should be, and what it will most likely be when we play it.
When we fucking play it.
12 months ago - I'd have laughed in your face and told your mother to shake it baby if you'd tried to tell me we'd be actually playing duke this year.
The reviews can go fuck themselves.
I'm almost certain I'm going to have a tonne of fun playing duke. And I'm pretty sure most duke fans on the shack will too. Reviews don't really matter. It's duke :(

I have no doubt that DNF will have all sorts of nagging issues and bits that will most likely have to be fixed by the fans. The shrink ray was pretty wonky vs. how it worked in Duke Nukem 3D (where the stomping radius was bigger) and you can't whip out the boot whenever you want (which I'm seeing as a more serious drawback after playing NecroVisioN and some more Duke Nukem 3D). I'm sure some people will see that as a minor problem like the flashlight in Doom 3 (which I didn't really mind in that game...i thought it did a nice job of adding to the atmosphere) and I'm sure some people will have a really hard time adjusting to the limited weapon carry system (honestly, I'm feeling a wee bit overwhelmed at times with the unlimited carry in NecroVisioN right now), but that's where the PC mod scene will come in.
...and it doesn't matter if it natively supports them or not, people will make mods for it.
The big problem with everything boils down to a lot of the people writing critical stuff about the game seem to be expecting some intangible dream of a game that they can't put into words and not a fucking rockin' modern parody run and gun. Hell, most writers seem to agree that it was a lot of fun and the universe of Duke grew on them as they played it, so I really fail to see the problem with it not massively innovating. What kind of innovation are they looking for anyway? Do they want multilayered dreams within dreams questioning the truth of reality or do they want some sort of gripping drama between Duke and his dead wife or what? Do they want some sort of major evolution to the run and gun formula? I don't get it. They've just going to bitch regardless because it took x number of years to come out and god do they feel so slighted by that because you can tell they were so fucking amped and looking forward to it all that time.
tl;dr - I hear 7.62 sucks harder than E5 - Brigade and lacks the fanpatches to make it fun. :(
