However, they're clearly not the size or technical prowess of Apple. Apple can have a spare bank of servers ready on a flip of a switch to go from one set of web code to another without batting an eye. I would figure, like most other smaller devs with less skills, web site revamping is done "live", and in this case required them to shut down the store for the next 3 days to bring code up to date and switch things over.
So to "cover" that, they pull this stunt. Which of course throws everyone in for a loop.
If they wanted to pull the Apple trick, they should have been honest, or at least "GOG is undergoing critical maintenance for 3 days" or even lying and said they lost a server and have to shut things down untli its replaced. Everyone would have accepted it, they could have pulled the Apple stunt, and everyone would be happy. Now, if this is truly marketing, they have just lost a lot of goodwill points. I'll likely still use them, but will be ensuring I get my games and backing them up immediately instead of assuming I always have a bookshelf ready.
