The grappling hook mod for the original Quake. Released not too long after the game came out, this was the first mod (not just a total conversion) that altered gameplay that I got to experience. It was minor and took some fiddling with to get it to work right, but it showed me how PC games could do things that my consoles *never* would allow.

Priss Nukem total conversion/mod for Duke Nukem 3D. Perhaps a bit undeserving to be in the dicussion of mods, this was more of a total conversion that did alter gameplay. Priss Nukem changed our beloved Duke3D.exe into a homage to the cult series "Bubblegum Crisis". It was a very impressive work for the mid 90s, especially for a one person development team.
